Pope Francis is coming to Peru on a Pastoral three-day visit as the Shepherd of the Universal Church, to confirm our faith in Christ, Our Lord, and to promote it among the ones who have not received it yet. This great gift for us Peruvians constitutes a new opportunity, given by God, to living the joy of the Gospel and to building new efforts to favor life, human wellbeing and the common good.
Under the slogan “United by Hope,” we welcome the Holy Father because he is taking a message of love, of work through unity and the security that our future will be full of blessings, if we live our condition of disciples and missionaries of Christ; a message that shall resonate in our hearts, particularly for those who live under vulnerable conditions.
During his apostolic visit, Pope Francis will travel to the cities of Lima (the capital of Peru); Puerto Maldonado (Region of Madre de Dios); and Trujillo (Region of La Libertad).
Lima, is the capital of Peru and cradle of Peruvian saints. The city of Puerto Maldonado is a symbol of the Amazon rainforest, where he wants to be an echo of the great concern reminding us that “humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home” (Encyclic Laudato si). The city of Trujillo, declared “Eucharistic City”, is located on the heart of the northern part of Peru, which signifies an expression of closeness to the victims of the recent phenomena “El Niño costero.”
May His Holiness Pope Francis’ visit be an appropriate occasion for an encounter with the Lord Jesus and of unity among the Peruvian people, as citizens and brothers of the same land, who aim to build each day a closer and fairer, more integrated and more solidary Peru.
